The very hungry caterpiller
this is the cover i drew the picture and she pasted the butterflies on.
this is the first folder on the inside we taped two folders together so that we could use the inside flaps instead of glueing it together this way we had more room. there is a days of the week copywork at the top and then a butterfliy diagram underneath. on the first panel is a caterpiller with questions inside the body. on the right flap there is the letter c copywork book and a paicture of a cocoon .
this is the day wensday she wrote over the dotted lines on each page.
the butterfly diagram with labels of the parts she remembered . and did you know the sucker tube that a butterfly eats from is called a probiscus ? i didnt know that….lol
this is the inside of the second folder, on the right flap there is scripture butterfly and below a little caterpiller craft we did. we attached the caterpiller to the leaf with a brad so he could move and it looks like hes eating the leaf. in the middle is a minibook of the story that we printed out from mother hubbard and over top is the lifecycle of the butterfly wheel.
and on the right flap is the story sequencing card game, i printed them out b&w and then coloured them myself and then covered them with packing tape to prolong life, attached a plastic ziploc bag to hold them in.
and these are the cards laid out.
This is a picture of the middle flap that is usally glued shut together so this way we had an extra section to work with. instead of glueing these two flaps together i attached the folder with duct tape on the outside to make it look like book binding and packing tape on the inside. then i took a piece of scrapbook paper and glued it over the two panels to cover the tape on the inside and then used it as an extra section instead of having to attach a flap from the bottom or top of anther page. I drew a picture of the caterpiller attched some velcro sticky circles to its body cut out circles for the numbers attched the othe half of the velcro stickys to the numbers and now she can put the numbers one to eight in the right order. I got my ideas from other lapbooks i seen at lapbook lessons and homeschool share and some of the prinouts were from either of these sites.
The grouchy ladybug.
This is the cover again i drew the picture and she stuck the stickies on. this one we got from homeschool share.
this is two file folders cut and slid together to make one book. on the inside of the first two pages we have a printout of a clock that i attched two hands to with brads so she could move them around to make the different times in the story book and also learn how to read a clock and tell time. underneath are some little crafts we did. on the other side there is thumbprint art and a section to count the ladybugs twenty ladybugs attached with brads.
this is the clock to teel time with i cut out the hands and attached them with brads and then glued it into the book.
this is the thumbprint art they were neater at the start of the craft and messy by the end.
This is the inside of the next two pages, there is a letter l wheel with pics of things that begin with l, a fold out book where she had to glue the correct number of insects into the jars. parts of the ladybug, a.b.c’s with the grochy ladybug flashcards.
this is still the inside of the second section with the flashcards showing and the counting by fives section, tha lady bug poem is on the top of the page.
and this is the bug jars she had to glue the bugs into .
This is the last two pages, we have a day with the grouchy ladybug book where you have to glue on the picture of the correct animal with the correct time and then write the time on the clock. I glued two strips of paper in with the funny parts of the story written on them. it says “hey you wanna fight?” and then on the bottom it says ” your not big enough”. she loves that part.
And this is the last page where we put the animal flashcards, i had to make two pouches for them cause i glued them onto card and then they were to thick to fit into one. So that is the grouchy ladybug, we did both of these to go with our bug theme unit were doing this month.
This is the insects lapbook we did in october for the bugs theme for some reasons insects are always cool.
okay this is the insects lapbook that I said we were doing in october turned out pretty good and every time she shes something on insects she says we shouold have put that in here too.
this one is two file folders spliced to gether to make eight pages so its a pretty long one for a four year old but she understood a lot of it so never underestimate your childs abilities is what i learned in october.
and attached to the back cover of the lapbbok is the a duotang with all her worksheets we did for the insects unit and an award for all her hard work.
this is something I just threw into our day because it was thanksgiving and it was free.
story of the first pilgrims we put on the first and third pages of the lapbook.

this is a giant turkey craft we got that youpaste together then it opens up in the middle and you writ everything your thankful for my little girl filled up the whole sheet.( she even included her pillow on the list.)
all right then these are some of the lapbooks we have done from the five in a row resources at www.homeschoolshare.com these are all free printables. some of the books we had others we have borrowed form the library. the first one is bluberries for sal, this one wasnt a lapbook but i took the resources they had available and made it into a lapbook just so we didnt lose ant of the pieces in the future play.
this one here is jesse bear what will you wear? little miss naughty really enjoyed this one alot she almost memorized the story in her own way though.
this one is also two file folders slid together to make eight pages this is the second page.
this is on the fifth page its jesse bears healthy lunch and a pasting shapes excercise
this is a copy of the story i wrote out she loved the story so much and it was one of the books we borrowed from the library so i copied it and then glued it onto the fourth page.
this is the sixth and seventh page we have a envelope with some of the poems from the book its about time jesse bear which we also read that week it was form the library and then i took the bear paper cutout and his clothes colored tham in and cut them out covered them with the infoumous packing tape and then made it into a dress the bear activity. to dress him she puts little pices of stick tac on the back of the pieces of clothes to attach them to his body.
these are the rhyming pairs word cards also covered with packing tape.
And this is corduroy bear, we just finished this one on thursday I didnt relize I had this story but I found it in collections for young scholars red book that we own. so we did this one to.
I was not planning to do any of these five in row books for our literature curriculum but I seen them at the library so im using them. I also will bw doing caps for sale, the snowy day, the runaway bunny, and goodnight moon. And I also found roxaboxen in another of our books and a new coat for anna. these were in the collections for young scholars blue book we own. so when thes are finished I post pics of them to.
here are some more of the five in a row lapbooks we have done lately. I guess we do one about every two weeks.
This is caps for sale, we did this a few weeks ago its not a big one but I did what I could there wasnt a free one available from homeschool share so I made one up. I drew a picture of a tree and had little miss naughty glue monkeys into the tree and then she glued hats falling from the tree. there are two mini books one ask the colour of the hats and the ohter askes what the monkeys actions were to copy the peddler.
This is goodnight moon I got this one from homeschool share she really enjoyed doing this one. all the differnet rhymes that were connected to the story were really fun.
The snowy day also from homeschool share.( I love that site)
All right this one I am most proud of I made it myself( I went to homeschool share first) they didnt have one but they had a link to this kangaroo cutout so I based the lapbbok on that. on the cover I put a copy of the kanga without her pocket and then when you open the flaps there the same kanga but now she has her pocket with freddy inside.
we made the craft and I drew the apron on before coloruring it in.( my daughter hates to colour????) I made some mini books asking why katy was crying what other mothers ahe talked to where she went to find the apron that kinda thing.
This is the under side of the flap that is taped in at the middle it asks what the man had for katy.
And this is the inside oF the file folder its an apron cut of cardstock with pockets that open to hold the animals cutouts I got from clipart on the computer. I also found a prinout of tools cards to add to the folder perhaps she will put them into the pockets to.
This is the dinosaur lapbook we done in september foe the begining of j/k she really enjoyed this one.
so the cover is green with blue bubbles and then the sides open up and on the left panel there is three mini books with facts about dinosaurs. on the right one there is three cutout dinos for writing description words.then on the first page is a wheel on whatever happened to the dinosaurs and then you lift that page up and theres another below it with a dinosaur puzzle and a book about behemoth in the bible. on the first page you lift up on the back of it is a section on meateater dinosaurs with pictures of what they eat and a card pocket with the different meateaters pasted on businesss cards to pull out and identify. then when you open the second page on the back of it is the planteaters same idea as the meateaters. and on the inside of the book there is a pocket with the dinosaur alphabet inside of it with a picture of a dinosaur for each letter of the alphabet. that was based on the dinosaur alphabet book by jerry pallotta. and then on the back i glued a duotang folder to hold all her worksheets shes been doing for the unit.we hole punch them and then put them inside. this has been so fun we plan on doing one for each of our science units we do.
